Fancy taking a walk with me in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park - virtually?

Since we are all unable to go for an actual walk in North Wales at the moment, how about I share with you some of my favourite walks which we are longing to walk ourselves once the lock down regulations are easing (whenever that might be)? Cwm Idwal A popular and easily accessible walk, which is not too exhausting (unless you want to climb up to the ridge?) just 20 mins by car from the B&B takes you right into a stunning part of Northern Snowdonia called the Glyderau. Waterfalls galore here in North Wales

Who doesn't like the sound and look of water tumbling down rocks? We have a few gorgeous waterfalls not far from Penmaenmawr that are quite different from each other. Take a look, this one is closest to the B&B - 'Rhaeadr Fawr' (Big Waterfall) and it is also the tallest with 37m around here: More commonly known as 'Aber Falls' because it's in a valley behind the lovely little village of Abergwyngregyn. It's great in any season and I love walking to it regularly in spring, sum

Welsh Beaches - variety, blue flags, beauty

Considering I grew up in landlocked Southern Germany it's a bit difficult to explain why I've always loved being near the sea. No idea where this yearning for wide horizons, blue/turquoise waters and coastal variety from cliff to beach is coming from. So I'm feeling like I've finally arrived when - here on the stunning and marvellous North Wales coast - I'm spoilt for choice with what kind of seaside I fancy today. Admittedly most days it's just a quick stroll down to 'my' be

Sunsets - who doesn't love them?

Having lived here now for over two years, I've taken about a thousand sunset photos because they are all different and all unique and all beautiful. I've got my own 'sunset barometer' - there is an Italianate building across the Dingle from my house and when the tower of it goes orange/pink/golden, I know it's time I leg it down to the beach to watch nature's spectacle anew. Here a tiny selection of the ones I've captured in the past year: What do you think it is that appeals

Snowdonia - walk your dog round Llyn Idwal?

This is a lovely walk whatever the weather and you'll meet lots of other dogs and their owners here. You can park at the car park along the A5 where the Youth Hostel at Llyn Ogwen is. The path past the little cafe on the left takes you up to an iron gate where this kind of old style road with large stones starts taking you up to Cwm Idwal, also known as Devil's Kitchen. You cross the stream here and your dog can have a good drink if required. The incline is gradual and not t

Penmaenmawr Upland Walk - great in any season

This walk you can tailor to your needs to be as long (up to 10 hours) or as short (45 mins) as you like, it's great for dogs, not ideal for push/-wheelchairs though due to washed out paths and slim passages and - you need proper walking boots. If you fancy walking all the way up from the B&B - it'll take you about 45-75 mins to get to the start of the Jubilee Walk (depending on your fitness level) and this way is simply up the road called Mountain Lane, but, like me, you c

Spring is finally here - so let's go out there and walk the beautiful green hills and valleys

Living in North Wales and not walking the beautiful countryside? Just not doable ... for me ;) Over the coming weeks/months I'll share a number of lovely walks I've discovered over the past year of living here with you - they'll cover both the coast and Snowdonia and cater for all ability levels and ages - you can probably figure out that I prefer to walk by the coast versus in Snowdonia, though I've managed a few there, too. Today we're starting with one of my favourites, it

Christmas is coming ... nearly there

Isn't it amazing how time flies when you're busy and having fun? It feels a little bit like I've just moved to North Wales on the one hand, but at the same time I feel very settled here in my new home. Well, the calendar says it's December, so I've nearly lived a whole year here in beautiful Penmaenmawr. Winter is drawing in and we even had some snow earlier this month - isn't it pretty? I went for a short walk up in the mountains where these pretty photos were taken along th

Getting the house ready to be a B&B

So, arriving on 4th February I'm greeted by boxes, boxes and ... more boxes ..., which we had just dumped in the Breakfast-Room-to-be at the end of January. I was in need of some exercise after 5 hours in the car anyway, so spent the rest of that Saturday lobbing the boxes and furniture into the rooms they were meant to find their permanent home in. Imagine - a very hot and red faceed Susanne carrying stuff up and down across the four floors os my house ... but, I got it all
