Snowdonia - walk your dog round Llyn Idwal?

This is a lovely walk whatever the weather and you'll meet lots of other dogs and their owners here. You can park at the car park along the A5 where the Youth Hostel at Llyn Ogwen is.

The path past the little cafe on the left takes you up to an iron gate where this kind of old style road with large stones starts taking you up to Cwm Idwal, also known as Devil's Kitchen.

You cross the stream here and your dog can have a good drink if required.

The incline is gradual and not too steep, and you slowly, but surely get above the valley with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains like Pen Yr Ole Wen (towards the coast, see photo here on the right), the Glyders (inland) with Tryfan on the left.

There is water everywhere and the beautiful green landscape is breathtaking.

When you get to the lake itself, you can decide which way round you want to walk it - it's all fairly level with a couple of more undulating parts.

*If you want a challenge, you could walk up to the ridge where you get an amazing view across both Llyn Idwal and Llyn Ogwen towards Nant Ffrancon as well as towards the coast where you can see Anglesey on a clear day.*

Here you can see why it's called the Devil's Kitchen. On a cloudy, misty, moody day the 'cauldron' seems to be cooking... ;)

All in all the walk from the car park up and around the lake shouldn't take you more than 1.5 hrs. Unless you climb up the ridge, that is, then you need to add at least another hour.

Views are glorious whichever way you look, it's a leisurely popular walk and it's great for a picnic in dry weather, too. It's only 20 minutes by car from the B&B and lots of my guests have been here and loved it.

So, hope you enjoy this tip and our beautiful North Wales countryside.
